Pineapple, Fruit, Vitamins


Pineapples are tropical fruits , rich in vitamins, enzymes and antioxidants. They can stimulate the immune system, develop strong bones and help with indigestion.  Though  sweet, pineapples are low in calories.
The nutritional benefits of pineapple are as attractive as their unique anatomy. “Pineapples contain large amounts of vitamin C and manganese, and these tropical fruits are also a great way to gain a lot of fiber and bromelain (an enzyme).

Due to the high manganese content that is important for the defense against antioxidants, pineapples also contain large amounts of thiamine, a vitamin B that is involved in energy production.

A cup of pineapple contains just 74 calories, according to the USDA’s National Nutrient Database. Pineapples are also fat-free, cholesterol-free and low in sodium and  contain sugar at about 14 grams per cup.

Pineapple contains a significant amount of vitamin C, a water-soluble antioxidant that works against cell damage, according to the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University. This makes vitamin C a useful fighter against problems such as heart disease and joint pain.

, “Pineapple can help reduce the risk of macular degeneration, a disease that affects eyes as they age, due in part to their high levels of vitamin C and the antioxidants they contain,” Flores said.
According to the Mayo Clinic, pineapple, like many other fruits and vegetables, contains fiber that is essential for a regular diet and a healthy diet of the gut.

Health Risks
Eating unripe pineapple or drinking unripe pineapple juice is dangerous,
Eating too much can result in tenderness of the mouth, including the lips, tongue and cheek. If the feelings persist for long hours, it is better to consult the doctor, as you may be suffering from pineapple allergy.
“Because of the high amount of vitamin C that pineapples contain, consuming large quantities may induce diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or heartburn.
According to university of Maryland Medical Center, extremely high amount of bromelain in pineapples can cause skin rashes, vomiting, diarrhea and excessive menstrual bleeding.
