Strawberry is a sweet, red colour, heart shaped fruit well known for its delicious taste and nutritional values.   It belongs to the rose family and has a distinct aroma. It is now available almost in all seasons of the year.Strawberries can be eaten raw and provides a wide range of health benefits.

Strawberries contain vitamins C and K, foliate, manganese, magnesium and also potassium. .  They are low calorie food, full of fibre and also abundant in antioxidants and polyphenols.  One cup of strawberries provides about 49 calories, including 3 grams of fibre and 12 grams of carbohydrates.

Improves Heart Function – According to research phenolic compounds in strawberries help to lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases by inhibiting the formation of bad cholesterol, LDL… Research conducted by r.Eric Rimm from Harward Medical School found that consumption of strawberries by young and middle aged women of half a cup of strawberries or blueberries a week reduced the risk of heart attack by 34%.  High level of anthocyanin in strawberries helps to relax the vessels, lower the blood pressure and thus prevent the cardiovascular problems.  High fibre, vitamin C and foliate in strawberries reduce the cholesterol in the arteries and vessels.

Stroke Prevention – Strawberries have anti-inflammatory power of the antioxidants which helps reduce the formation of the blood clots which are associated with stroke.  Research at Cambridge University has disclosed that chemical called maleate esters in strawberries help stop organ damage and prevents blood clots.

Cancer Prevention – Vitamin C, foliate, kquercetin, kaempferol in strawberries act as an excellent antioxidants…  They form a very strong line of defence for fighting cancer and tumor growth. Daily consumption of strawberries is connected with drastic reductions of metastasis of cancer cells.  Freeze dried strawberries have power to prevent oesophageal cancer.

Eye CareStrawberries are highly useful in eye care.  Strawberries eating can prevent dry eyes, desecration of optic nerves, vision defects and also infections.   Antioxidants in strawberries can help to avoid almost all eye problems as they protect against free radical scavenging activity.  Strawberries are helpful in fixing the pressure within the eyes.  Potassium in the strawberries helps to maintain the correct pressure of the eyes.
